K-Kids bring cheer to assisted living residents

Members of the Kiwanis K-Kids Club from Westfield River Elementary School braved chilly and rainy weather Wednesday to bring some holiday cheer to residents at The Arbors assisted living residence on Court Street.

The students, accompanied by their faculty advisors Jean Brown and Scott Labrie and Kiwanis advisors Geana Delisle and Alex Khatchadourian, made the trek from their school to The Arbors, where they performed a selection of Christmas carols for the appreciative residents.

The children, third and fourth graders, also presented the residents with handmade holiday craft items. In return, Arbors staff presented the students with coloring books and bracelets which were made by the residents.

The visit to The Arbors has been an annual event for the K-Kids members for several years. The K-Kids Club at Westfield River Elementary combined the clubs from the former Franklin Avenue and Abner Gibbs Elementary Schools. Both those schools closed last year when the new Westfield River School opened.

K-Kids is the Kiwanis “Service Leadership Program” for elementary school-aged children. In addition to the Westfield River Elementary group, Westfield Kiwanis sponsors K-Kids at Munger Hill Elementary and at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Westfield.
