The Kiwanis K-Kids Club at Westfield River Elementary School is starting its annual fundraiser for the Thirst Project, the world’s largest youth water organization. For the past several years, K-Kids members at Westfield River Elementary and its predecessor, Franklin Avenue School, have raised funds to help the Thirst Project build wells for communities that have no access to fresh water.
The Thirst Project usually works with middle school, high school, and college groups, including Kiwanis-sponsored Builders Clubs, Key Clubs and Circle K Clubs, but the elementary school students at Westfield River and Franklin Avenue have raised thousands of dollars for the cause over the past several years.
Plastic water bottles will be placed in the school’s classroom with an invitation to fill the bottles with dimes which when filled, represent approximately $100. According to the Thirst Project web site, “In just over a decade, we’ve raised several million dollars and funded projects to provide over 500,000 people with safe, clean water! The need is great though. We can no longer ignore one of the most significant global killers of children. Our immediate goal with Thirst Project is to provide safe, clean water and sanitation to the entire Kingdom of eSwatini.”
